Castle welcomes Lockwood Castle Building Centre

In our 50th anniversary year, Castle Building Centres Group Ltd. is pleased to welcome yet another new independent member to join the 18 new members in 2013, joining 295 retail, commercial and specialty dealers across Canada. Castle continues its growth and member success, further securing our position as one of the most successful independent buying groups in the country.

Castle welcomes Lockwood Castle Building Centre located one hour west of Ottawa in Eastern Ontario.

1. Lockwood Castle Building Centre

Lockwood Castle Building Centre is the newest Castle location in Ontario, located in the well-known Ottawa Valley in the town of Renfrew. This full service lumber, building materials and hardware retail store is rich in history dating back to 1936 when Frederick Lockwood started the company as a custom millwork manufacturer, Wood Works of Renfrew. Over the past 85 years, the reins have been passed on from generation to generation and today Lockwood Building Centre is operated by Bob Lockwood, grandson of Frederick. Bob is no stranger to the LBM industry in ON and currently sits on the board of the LBMAO as Chairman and is definitely in tune with the direction of the industry.

For almost 30 years, Bob has been cultivating this successful LBM retail location servicing contractors and consumers as a full service and highly respected home improvement centre in the local area. Lockwood Castle occupies a remarkable 7 acres of property on the outskirts of Renfrew with over 5500 sq. ft of retail space and a 5000 sq. ft. drive-thru lumberyard. Bob, alongside store manager, Shawn Davidson, will offer customers of Lockwood Castle real home improvement project know-how and expertise. News Release - October 3, 2013 - Mississauga, ON

"Oh, What A Night!"

The Castle 50th Anniversary Open House was held on Thursday October 3rd at the "The Atrium" in Mississauga at 100 Milverton and oh, what a night it was! The event was the climax of an incredible 50th anniversary year and commemorated the incredible milestone of 50 years of excellence while celebrating those who have ultimately contributed to Castle’s success. Guests came from across Canada to attend Castle’s pinnacle event and included many local area shareholders, Castle board of directors, valued vendor partners as well as Castle’s very own dedicated staff, both past and present.

The catered affair included gourmet food stations, a live jazz duo, a 50th anniversary presentation and special guests. The presentations were kicked off by Master of Ceremonies, Ron Craighead, CBS National Business Development Manager, and included warm remarks from Castle Chair, Vicki Hagel of Cook Street Castle who flew in from Victoria, BC for the festivities. Remarks of gratitude from long-time Vendor Partners were shared with the crowd as well as a very special appearance by the forever spirited, Her Worship Mayor Hazel McCallion, who is currently serving her 12th term in office for the City of Mississauga.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary, a scholarship program was established for Castle members and their employees, as well as Castle staff and their families. The program recognized students with academic excellence and a passion to lead and inspire positive change in their communities. The recipients of the scholarships were honoured to highlight their achievements.

Castle was excited to present the winning cheque in their 50th Anniversary $50K Giveaway contest, which was held this past summer at participating Castle Building Centres locations across Canada. It was the largest and the most publicized contest promotion in the history of Castle with over 125,000 ballots compiled from participating Castle locations. The winning name was drawn on September 16. Sarah Klassen of Ingersoll, ON who filled in the winning ballot at Allen Building Center in Woodstock, ON, was the big $50K winner. Sarah and husband George were invited to the Open House to accept the winning cheque on behalf of Castle.

The presentations wrapped up with an inspiring and heartfelt message and thank you from Castle President, Ken Jenkins. "We are looking forward to "life after 50" and our commitment to the success of our members will continue to be our priority. When you become committed to empowering success in others, great opportunities arise."

Castle Building Centres Group held the 7th Annual Atlantic Buying Expo August 27th - 29th 2013 in the charming city of St. John's, Newfoundland. Castle members from all over the Atlantic Provinces including Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI took over the picturesque town of St. John's for this exciting 3 day event. The Castle Atlantic Buying Expo is the only regional buying expo of its kind offering Castle members the perfect mix of purchasing opportunities paired with social events and interaction with Castle staff, fellow members and valued vendor partners. The Castle event featured exceptional Pallet Buy opportunities and exclusive Vendor Expo Specials offered in the unique 10 minute rotational format, in an intensive full day buying session. A Castle expo in St. Johns wouldn't be complete without a visit to the infamous George Street as members and vendors joined together and enjoyed a true Newfoundland tradition as they experienced a "Rally In The Alley" with a Castle twist that offered the group a chance at an amazing prize. Tim McHatten, Castle member location TJ's Windows & Doors in Charlottetown, PEI was the lucky winner. The Expo finale included a scenic drive to The Wilds golf course for a morning round of golf or a scenic excursion to the shores of the Atlantic for a Whale and Puffin boat tour.

Quebec Region shows no signs of slowing down!

The Quebec region continues to enjoy a steady growth in member locations. Castle Building Centres Group Ltd. is pleased welcome a brand new member location in Quebec; Seaside Supply.

This unique seaside Castle location is situated in the town of La Tabatiere in the Lower North Shore of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and has provided a diverse selection of supplies to the many fishing and trading vessels that come into shore as well as local contractors and do-it-yourselfers.

Owner-operator John Vasher originally opened the doors back in 2006 and his unique business model has been a staple in the community for many years. Seaside Supply is well known to the local population of 400 as the general store selling not only food and gift sundries but hardware, LBM and decor products.

John is looking forward to this new chapter and the freedom and buying power of the Castle Building Centres Group, and what it will mean to the growth of the local community.

The location was founded 35 years ago and specializes in quality lumber products and building materials.

Windsor Falls Home Centre, a completely Canadian Compliant store featured at the Orgill Spring Dealer Market in Orlando. The market took over the Orange County Convention Center last week as thousands of independent hardware retailer attendees flocked to see the latest and greatest Orgill had to offer. Orgill Worldwide Distribution is committed to providing leading edge hardware products and support services to their Canadian independent partners.

Castle members, already impressed with Orgill's commitment to the Canadian independent and this leading edge hardware solution, were pleased to hear Orgill's big news. Ron Beal, President of Orgill, was excited to announce plans to open a Canadian Distribution Centre in Mississauga, ON to fulfill the needs of their Canadian customers, bridge the gap and provide single source procurement to Canadian independent retailers nationwide. Scheduled opening is May 1st 2013.
