As a result of several years of member growth, Castle will be enhancing their Business Development Management structure as the New Year begins.

The first announcement is the newly developed role, Director of Business Development. The role was created to assist our Business Development Team in strengthening the communication within our membership and assist in coordinating growth objectives in all regions. Bruce Holman, BDM for the Central Region, will assume this new position to coordinate and oversee the activities of our regional Business Development Managers across the country. Castle will assess the additional member support needs for the Central Region in early 2016.

Castle has announced a new role for Alan Schoemperlen as Castle Business Development Manager – Mentor. Alan will be working in a reduced capacity in 2016 as he looks to transition from his current role. He will play an important part in the continuous development of the Castle team by sharing best practices, industry insight and knowledge, and will support the professional development of the regional Business Development Managers across the country.
His first mandate will be to work closely with Chris Graves, Castle Business Development Manager, who will step in to take over in Manitoba - Saskatchewan. Chris Graves brings extensive industry experience, new spirit and a strong base of relationships in the Western Canada LBM industry. Chris comes to Castle with many accolades and prior to joining the team, spent several years as a key Castle supplier partner in the role of Senior Territory Manager.

Castle Building Centres Group Ltd. announced today that Stoney Point Hardware Ltd. has now opened its doors to the local community as the newest Castle Building Centres location in Stoney Point, ON.

Stoney Point Hardware has been part of the local community since 1949. Founder Rob Duquette decided that the small lakeside town in Southwestern Ontario needed a dedicated hardware store. Rob and his knowledgeable staff have been serving the growing home improvement market including local contractors, DIY and walk-in customers ever since. The decision to make the move to Castle was prompted by the need to be part of a buying group that offered a more extensive and flexible hardware solution that would address the store’s specific hardware requirements.

Chris purchased the existing retail store and warehouse back in 2012 and now plans to add an additional 2000 sq. ft. of retail and 1000 sq.ft. warehouse space as his business grows with the help of Castle. Chris joined the Castle group because he knew it was time to expand his product offering to better serve the people of Arborg and surrounding area.

This new Castle location in Gander Bay includes a 6,000 square foot retail area which will feature a full range of lumber, building materials and hardware products and top brand names with a sizeable warehouse and lumberyard on the property as well. The customer base is primarily rural area contractors and DIY and the store also offers complete home renovation and construction contracts in the area. Gander Bay also supplies building materials to the Gander River area, an exclusive cottage area only accessible by riverboat or plane.

The Belleville location where a former competing retail hardware store operated, is undergoing a complete renovation and redesign by the Curtis Family. The property is poised on 5 acres of land and will offer the same comprehensive brand name hardware assortment. The lumber and building materials yard will have a 14,000 sq.ft. of warehouse space, which is set to open next week with the retail store in early August. Castle Building Centres Group Ltd. announced today their newest member in Western Canada. Kindersley Castle Building Center will be opening their doors to the local community Kindersley, Saskatchewan and surrounding area. The new start-up is located in the town of Kindersley, which is in west central Saskatchewan and located along the primary highway linking Calgary and Saskatoon. The brand new retail and lumberyard is strategically located in the prairie service center hub to the oil and gas industry. Kindersley Castle is open for business in a temporary building while they complete the expansion and construction of additional space in the new location.

The partners purchased an incredible 5.2 acre lot where they will construct a 12,500 sq.ft. retail storefront and utilize the remaining space for warehouse, lumberyard and customer parking. The grand opening and completion of Kindersley Castle is scheduled for late summer/early Fall 2015 and once completed, will offer a comprehensive assortment of lumber and building material products as well as a specialized hardware assortment and product selection to meet the needs of their market.

As you drive through the Greater Victoria area of British Columbia, you will notice the prominence of Castle Building Centres, and now there is yet another new Castle in town: Bay Street Castle Building Centre. This new location on Bay Street in Victoria was recently acquired and re-branded by the Hagels this past week transitioning to Castle from a competing banner.
The new owners, Frank and Vicki Hagel, also own and operate the nearby Cook Street Castle Building Centre. When they saw the incredible opportunity to own this very strategically located retail store, they jumped at the prospect of opening their second Castle location. The new store is positioned to serve the needs of Victoria and Esquimalt communities as well as the downtown small business area and the flourishing condo/townhouse market of Greater Victoria.

Owners Frank and Vicki Hagel have been in the lumber and building materials since the early 80’s and opened their first Castle location, Cook Street Castle, in 1986. A busy retail hardware and renovation store on Cook Street featuring the only “drive-thru” lumberyard in BC. Frank will continue to run the Cook Street location as Vicki and long-time General Manager Brent Cowling will spearhead the transition and operate the new Bay Street store, which began with the complete re-branding to Castle.
Bay Street Castle Building Centre sits on 2.6 acres of land on Bay Street with a 23,000 sq. ft. retail storefront and 9,000 sq. ft. warehouse space. The Bay Street Castle location will carry a complete range of lumber, hardware and building materials and be serviced by the over 20 experienced staff members who were retained as part of the acquisition.

Lortie et Martin, is located in the Laurentians approximately 100 kilometres north of Montréal. This Castle member location has been serving the local community for almost 65 years and comes to Castle from a competing national banner.

Lortie et Martin Ltée was founded back in 1950 by René Lortie, father of the current owner Normand Lortie, who acquired the business from René in 1984 and has been integral in the growth and evolution of the business into the well-respected and successful Lumber, Building Materials and Hardware store it is today. The retail storefront is over 35,000 sq. ft. employing 90 staff members happily servicing the Sainte Agathe community of 10,000 residents and the surrounding area. The property includes a 180,000 sq. ft. lumberyard and warehouse with a second LBM warehouse location nearby on a 400,000 sq. ft. lot. Lortie et Martin services the local community with 12 delivery trucks including 4 boom trucks in their fleet.

Cottage Country Building Supplies is the newest Castle Building Centres location in the town of Carnarvon, approximately 20 minutes outside of Haliburton. The new location was an acquisition by the Emmerson Family, who have been operating Emmerson Lumber since 1957.

Over 200 Castle members and staff, along with an additional 100 Canadian Independent retailers, formed the largest Canadian contingent to ever attend the Orgill Dealer Market in Orlando, Florida. The Orgill Spring Market dominated the Orange County Convention Center once again this year with an incredible one-million square feet of exhibit show space and over 3,400 dealers from around the globe.
Castle dealers gathered to see the latest and greatest that Orgill has to offer and take advantage of Pallet Buys, Truckload Sales, Coupon Specials and Door Buster deals. Orgill has become the Independent’s “One-Stop Hardware Solution” and continues to expand their Canadian offering with over 65,000 Canadian compliant sku’s. The 2015 Spring Market included three model-stores and over 1,000 vendor exhibits representing endless hardware and building product categories. Ron Beal, President of Orgill is very optimistic about their Canadian opportunity and maintains that vendors are motivated more than ever to do what it takes to become part of Orgill’s Canadian growth.
Orgill’s commitment to the Canadian Independent as a leading edge hardware solution continues to solidify with a dedicated dealer network, growing Canadian Distribution Centre and commitment to a bilingual offering. The existing 6,000 square foot retail space, which is currently under expansion, sits on two hectares of land and is the site of a drive-through warehouse totalling over 30,000 square feet. The business was acquired last year by entrepreneurs Amaury Sauer and Hélène Stichelbout who are excited about this new endeavour and the newly designed 10,000 square foot Castle-branded store that will be completed by early spring. The retail store is staffed by over 25 employees and is a full-service lumber, building materials and hardware operation with a complete service truck fleet to meet the needs of their growing customer base.

The Harold and Goetz story began in Brantford, Ontario back in 1921 as a small goods wholesaler who later transitioned into a roofing materials distributor and installation company. By 1980, the business had evolved into a full-service roofing contracting company for both residential and flat roofing projects and full-service building material wholesale and retail operation.
Today, Harold and Goetz continues to grow with a full line of lumber, building materials and hardware. The roofing division has become a full-service residential and commercial contracting operation and the new Castle location also offers a full line of residential windows, doors and installations.
